I was chatting with a friend this week about a woman in Wyoming who addressed a male state senator, Tim French, as “Madam Chairwoman,” after he supported a bill forbidding the compelled use of preferred pronouns. He interrupted her, saying he preferred to be called “Chairman French,” to which she pointed out that Republican legislators had just supported a bill saying preferred pronouns could not be compelled and continued to refer to him as “Madame Chairwoman.”
