I read this morning that a nearly 200-year-old magnolia tree planted by Andrew Jackson on the White House lawn in memory of his wife, will be removed at the direction of Donald Trump. Surprisingly, the tree was not Black, Hispanic, or Arabic, the customary targets of a Trump removal. He said the tree posed a danger so had to be cut down. The irony is rich. How is it Trump can notice the hazard a tree might pose while remaining ignorant of the threat he poses every day he remains at the White House? I’d rather save the tree, and take an axe to the Trump presidency, before our nation topples to the ground.
