Several years ago, hoping to singlehandedly restore the Monarch butterfly population, my wife gathered milkweed seeds and planted them in raised beds in our backyard. I have little interest in gardening since learning there were no M&M or Snickers plants, so I paid little attention to her efforts. As exhausting as it is to save the world, it’s even more exhausting to be married to said savior. She awakens each day determined to beat back the tides of decline, while I watch from the sidelines, exhausted on her behalf.
