Today we are celebrating our graduates and women, which presents me with an abundance of preaching possibilities. A few weeks ago, when I was thinking about this morning, I thought to myself, “If only there were a Bible story about graduation and women.
You hand us again the dignity God gave us in the first place. I lived in that prison for fifty years before I rebelled and ate the fruit for myself. Thank you for your wisdom.
Mr. Lewis, your response is perfect, and mine would have been similar, but less eloquent. It took me 60 years, although I was trying hard to break out of the prison for most of those 60 years…
There are a lot of great quotes in Philip Gulley’s sermon and I’ve taken note of all the ones that resonate with me, but as a former Catholic (first 50 years of my religious prison), this one is spot on:
“A new Pope was selected this week to lead the world’s largest Christian denomination and not one woman had a say in the matter.”
What a great message. Thank you for giving a positive and uplifting interpretation to passages that have been used to degrade women and make all of us feel sinful. Please keep them coming, Phillip Gulley.
It's painful to know the difference, when we see so much evil in the world. When I get depressed about it, my friends advise me to watch less news, as Candide was advised to tend his own garden. Gardening does give me relief, but then I feel that I'm shirking my responsibility to share the good news about having graduated. Choices, choices...
Not disagreeing with you, Phillip. For fun: Just wondering.......If a mom bakes cookies, takes them out of the oven, and places them on a rack to cool; she might say to her children, "Don't eat the cookies." However, did she mean, "Don't eat the cookies EVER or don't eat the cookies now." Is it possible that was God's thinking? :) As far as the Pope goes...many nuns were reportedly preparing for the new Pope. And I believe they were also praying for him. While that does not change the fact that women did not participate in the selection, I believe they were very much involved in the preparation and arrival. Wandering thoughts. Wishing All Best Days.....M

This is the most profound sermon I have heard! What a perspective!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I went to the Creation Museum and I discovered that this was not Eve's fault. It was Adam's. He did not control his woman!😆🙄
Ouch....
