Sam phoned Johnny Mackey at the Mackey Funeral Home, who came in his hearse to haul Dale to the hospital in Cartersburg. Why in the world didn’t this town have an ambulance service with trained personnel instead of depending upon a 90-year-old man to haul folks the fifteen miles to the nearest hospital in a hearse?
