My wife and I spent last weekend visiting our son, his wife, and their children—a three-year-old and seven-month-old twins. They live on a military base, in a Mayberry-like atmosphere, where houses are seldom locked, children roam free, and neighbors congregate for meals. We spent Saturday morning eating pancakes in a neighbor’s driveway. Dogs made their rounds to be petted, played with, and fed. There were woods to explore, trails to walk and ride, and streams and ponds to fish. And because the twins are still babies, there were diapers to change.
