I was thinking the other day about the Republican Party my parents belonged to. You remember that party, don’t you? The one with the broad smile of Dwight Eisenhower, the genial personality of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush’s kinder, gentler nation, and George W.’s compassionate conservatism. I can’t for the life of me understand how that same party now champions Marjorie Taylor Greene, Steve Bannon, Elise Stefanik, and its bully-in-chief Donald Trump. It is a mystery for the ages.
