The thing about retiring as a pastor is that you never really do, so Sam rose early the morning after Dale Hinshaw had been shot in the knee and drove to the hospital in Cartersburg to visit him. That was another thing about being a pastor, you not only visited people you liked, you also visited the people you didn’t. Liking someone didn’t enter the equation. If someone needed looking after, you looked after them, no matter how annoying they were.
