It might surprise you to learn that working as a Quaker pastor wasn’t my first choice vocation-wise. When I was growing up in Danville, Indiana, I wanted to be the president, like every kid I knew. I’ve spent a good part of my life thinking of the things I’d do if I were in charge of the country, so I’m ready for the task, should duty call, though I can’t imagine the circumstances that would compel a majority of Americans to think I was the answer to our nation’s problems.
